John “Jack” Houvouras is a writer and publisher in Huntington, W.Va. He is a 1988 graduate of the W. Page Pitt School of Journalism & Mass Communications at Marshall University where he served as editor of the student newspaper, The Parthenon. After graduating he founded HQ Publishing Co. and released the company’s first magazine — the Huntington Quarterly. In the following years he oversaw the addition of numerous custom publications to HQ Publishing Co. He is a 1993 graduate of the Leadership West Virginia program. In 1994 he was named the “Young Entrepreneur of the Year” by the West Virginia Small Business Administration. His work has appeared in Hemispheres Magazine, Sierra Magazine, Kingdom Magazine, Washington Golf Monthly, Wonderful West Virginia, The Herald-Dispatch, Huntington Quarterly and Marshall Magazine.
